It's nice you've resurfaced Burdick south of Virginia. How long before 3rd St. from Perkins to Stallard is resurfaced?

Arlene Riemer asked 6 months ago

City Engineering is looking at cost estimates on this street, which may be presented to City Council for the FY21 budget. Also, the City's five-year Pavement Management plan does not currently have plans for improvements to 3rd  between Berry and Stallard, but it does include mill and overlay from Stallard to Payne. Thank you for asking. ~ sf

When is the bridge on 27th street going to be repaired? It has been closed since May and is a real inconvenience!

    MeAgain asked 7 months ago

City Council awarded the contract to replace the 26the Avenue bridge to Downey Construction last Monday night. We are currently working on getting contracts signed along with insurance and bond certificates. We expect construction to begin before the end of the year and take 3 to 4 months depending upon the weather. Thank you for asking. ~ sf

I’ve heard that the City is paying for stormwater draining improvements around the university at Duck and McElroy. If this benefits OSU, why should we pay for it?

Nikki Howard asked 3 months ago

While OSU and the City of Stillwater have a long history of joint projects, the stormwater upgrades for West Boomer Creek were paid for by OSU. The upgrades include a new stormwater detention pond to help with runoff for athletic facilities. The only role the City played was to review and approved the plans like we would for any development. Thanks for the question.

Any chance Target will open a store here? Or have we missed the window for big box stores opening lots of stores because they are focusing on online sales now?

    adcollinsq@gmail.com asked 3 months ago

Great question! While the City and its economic development partners will work with retail stores who want to do business in Stillwater, we don't always know why they don't choose to open in Stillwater. What we do know is that businesses like Target make some of their decisions based on the results of the US Census. The best thing you can do to bring your favorite box store to town is to encourage friends, family and coworkers to complete the 2020 Census this March.

Will you be adding more stores and restaurants on W. 6th street like Target, Sams Club or another Lowe’s or Home Depot? What about a Golden Corral?

    tenniec76 asked 3 months ago

I think we can all agree, development on West 6th would be nice.

The Stillwater City Council (sitting at the Stillwater Economic Development Authority) does not directly solicit businesses to open in Stillwater. However, as a local government, it can use tax increment financing to publicly finance needed structural improvements and enhanced infrastructure within a defined area to promote the viability of existing businesses and to attract new commercial enterprises to the area. Any funds the TIF generates would only be allocated for investment in the identified project district. These funds would not go into the City’s general fund. To read more about Stillwater's TIF, visit http://stillwater.org/page/home/government/financial-center/tax-increment-finance-tif

There is a TIF set up for West 6th Avenue:

Stillwater West 51 Development District Project Plan

    • The project plan (See Ordinance No. 3339) for this district was adopted on May 16, 2016.

      • The purpose of this project is to develop an attractive, viable commercial retail development area along State Highway 51 extending from Range Road east to Sangre Road.

      • Commencing July 1, 2016, and authorized not to exceed 20 years

      • Boundary Map for TIF #2

      • Annual Reports for TIF #2

The City also contracts retail and restaurant development to the Stillwater Chamber of Commerce. It is up to private businesses to decide to open stores and restaurants in Stillwater. This is a great platform to let them know they will be welcomed.

Thanks for the question. ~ sf

We live just outside city limits on Seadog road. We can not hear the tornado sirens from where we live. Any chance we can get one in our area?

Shannon M asked 3 months ago

First, outdoor tornado sirens are meant to warn people who may be outside at the time of the siren—not inside houses. Since tornado sirens are funded by city sales tax, we don't extend them outside city limits.  Thanks for asking.

Is the house at 901 S. Gray St. getting demolished? If so what is going to happen to the land? Is it going to be for sale?

Jessica Allen asked 3 months ago

This property is not on the current list of property violations. However, if it was the property would still belong to the current property owner. ~ sf

Are there plans to put in a stop light on N Washington st where W lake McMurtry crosses into west Burris rd? If not, how do we make that happen?

    Nd1990 asked 3 months ago

That intersection is outside city limits. You'll need to talk to ODOT for this intersection because N. Washington is US177. The City would assume maintenance once it was installed. ~ sf

Will we be getting a Ted’s here? Also, are any restaurants coming to the west side of Stillwater? Also, is there any hope of road work being done on Range Road between 6th Street and 19th? That intersection and road is terrible.
