The Husband Street Project
Stillwater City Council has proposed that a portion of north Husband Street be reconstructed to be a 1.5-mile bicycle/pedestrian transportation corridor through the center of Stillwater. The existing street will be designed to support bicycle and pedestrian use as the preferred mode of transportation.
Public feedback will help decide the following:
Should vehicles of all sizes continue to use the street?
Should delivery vehicles be prohibited?
Should the bridge over Husband Street be narrowed for bicycle and pedestrian use only?
Also to be considered are various features to enhance the safety and comfort for corridor users. Features may include Toucan signals at intersections, raised center islands, possible limited turning movements of motorized vehicles, and wayfinding signage.
Another aspect of the proposed corridor is that it can be designed to connect existing bicycle and pedestrian infrastructures such as the Kameoka Trail to destinations such as Boomer Lake, Stillwater High School, Strickland Park, Downtown Stillwater and Oklahoma State University.
